Ijaz Butt calls for investigation into Pakistan v India ICC World Cup 2011 semi-final ? Cricket News Update

Pakistan Cricket Board?s former boss, Ijaz Butt has called for an investigation of a possible fowl play in the ICC World Cup 2011 semi-final between arch rivals India and Pakistan.

?My suggestion would be that the matter should be investigated," Butt told ARY news channel. ?There were a lot of allegations in Indian newspapers and even in Pakistani newspapers but there was no investigation," he added.

Butt was the head of the PCB when the match took place and while he chose not to give a statement on the alleged fixing back then, he has now chosen to put some pressure on the ICC and the current big wigs in the PCB with his latest demand.

While the allegations were shot down by the ICC when they first surfaced. The controversy has again made headlines after extracts of a book by sports-betting journalist Ed Hawkins were published by Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, in which the author claimed that an Indian bookie had accurately predicted the outcome of Pakistan's innings.

According to Hawkins, the Indian bookie tweeted to him during the Indian innings on how Pakistan would eventually fall from grace.

Hawkins described that the bookie had told him that Pakistan would reach 100 easily then lose two wickets quickly, reach 150 with five down and lose by more than 20 runs.

The Men in Green eventually lost the game by 29 runs, continuing their losing streak in the mega event against the Indians.

Pakistan were suspected of throwing the game right from the start as while fielding first they dropped Sachin Tendulkar four times to help him score a match-winning knock of 85. Experts at that time reckoned that had Pakistan neutralized the batting maestro earlier, India would have been pinned down.

Before the World Cup, Pakistan were struck by the spot-fixing scandal that involved pacers Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif and batsmen Salman Butt.

The three players were banned by the ICC from playing any sort of cricket (international or domestic) during the time period of their respective bans which saw them axed from the World Cup squad.
