Following a series of events earlier in 2012, a ?22 million project has been earmarked to bring down the curtain on a memorable year for the monarch.
The proposed bridge is intended to be for pedestrians only and will link Chelsea Harbour and Lombard Road in Battersea.
It is believed that the location has been chosen because it is where the Queen boarded the royal barge at the beginning of her Diamond Jubilee river pageant in the spring.
Architect Chris Medland has provided further details of the bridge, noting it will run alongside an existing rail bridge that has been in place since the 1850s.
'The area has changed completely in the last ten years. The riverfront from Battersea Park feels Parisian and is becoming much more popular with pedestrians and cyclists,' he told the BBC.
He is hopeful that the Jubilee footbridge could be constructed and opened by spring 2014, providing planning permission is granted in an appropriate timeframe.
The last footbridges to be built in London were done so to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee ten years ago and are found either side of the Hungerford Bridge.
